Artisan, Lancelot or Wotan oak? Comparing tabletop decors

Wood-effect tabletops can look very different, even when their names mention the same wood species. A table's appearance depends on the shade, grain contrast, visible knots and the combination of tabletop and legs. Choose a decor based on photos of the specific model rather than its name alone.

The wood-effect decors we offer include Artisan Oak, Lancelot Oak, Craft Gold Oak, Odwieczny Oak and Wotan Oak. Below, we compare their appearance in photos of our tabletops and suggest where to start when matching them to an interior.

Artisan oak: a cool shade and visible knots

Zeus tabletop in Artisan decor: a light, cool shade and visible knots

In the tabletop photo, Artisan Oak has a light yet cool shade with distinct knots and varied grain. The pattern is noticeable, but also leaves lighter, quieter areas on the surface.

This is a good starting point if you want natural wood in a cooler tone and would like to pair the table with white, grey or light upholstery. Black accessories can emphasise the contrast between the tabletop and the rest of the set.

With a wooden floor, pay attention to its shade. A cool tabletop works well with a floor in a similar tone. With a floor that has strong yellow or orange tones, check that the difference in colour temperature is not too great.

Lancelot oak: a stronger pattern and muted colours

Lancelot in the photo has more muted colours and distinct dark accents. The pattern shows knots and lengthwise lines resembling natural cracks in wood. These are part of the surface decor.

Consider it when you want the tabletop to be a prominent feature of the room. You can pair it with black and grey or soften its character with light, plain chair upholstery.

If the interior already contains many strong patterns, compare Lancelot with lower-contrast decors. The table, floor and kitchen fronts do not all need to attract attention with equally pronounced grain.

Craft Gold: a golden colour and contrasting lines

In the photo, Craft Gold stands out for its golden shade and distinct darker lines. The surface pattern is varied, with visible knots and lengthwise accents.

Choose this decor if you want a warm, striking tabletop. Light walls and simple upholstery let it stand out, while dark elements can echo the darker lines in the pattern.

Before combining it with another wood-effect finish, check both colours' temperature. It is particularly worth comparing it with flooring or fronts with a strong reddish tone.

Odwieczny oak: softer contrast

Zeus tabletop in Odwieczny decor: a light surface and softer grain contrast

In the photo, Odwieczny has a light surface and softer transitions between the lighter and darker parts of the pattern. The grain remains visible but is less contrasting than the strong dark accents of Lancelot or Wotan.

Start here if you want the tabletop to provide a calmer background for chairs, dishes and accessories. You can pair it with light neutral colours or use it as a backdrop for more striking upholstery.

“Calmer” does not mean uniform. Look at a photo of the whole tabletop to see how the pattern is distributed over a larger surface.

Wotan oak: pronounced knots and darker accents

In the photo, Wotan shows strongly defined knots and dark lines on a brown background. The pattern is striking and can become one of the table's main features.

Consider it if you like a stronger wood pattern. Simple chairs and plain upholstery help keep the set visually clear, while black accessories can echo the darker areas of the decor.

Compare Lancelot and Wotan side by side. Both have distinct accents, but their arrangement and shade differ in our photos. The description “rustic” alone is not enough to choose between them.

How to choose a decor for your floor and chairs

Start with the elements you do not plan to replace: flooring, kitchen fronts and larger furniture. Then decide whether the table should be a quiet backdrop or a stronger accent.

  • If you want softer contrast, compare Odwieczny and Artisan first.
  • If you want golden colours and distinct lines, look at Craft Gold.
  • If you like pronounced knots and dark accents, compare Lancelot and Wotan side by side.

Also check photos of the tabletop with different leg finishes. The same pattern can give a different impression depending on the colours of the whole table and its surroundings.

All five wood-look finishes — plus white, black and cashmere — are available on the York, Zeus and Xavi tables.

Photo colours depend on lighting, the camera and screen settings. The comparison above describes the appearance of our product photos; it is not a colour measurement. Before buying, look at several views of the same variant, including a tabletop close-up and a photo of the whole table.
